Chainsaw Man is currently the most anticipated anime of the year. With all the hype the upcoming series is getting, it’s natural to encounter questions concerning the main lead’s love interest. If you’re curious as well, here’s a brief guide on who is Denji in love with in Chainsaw Man.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man so read at your own risk.
A Brief Background on Denji

Orphaned and alone, Denji is anything you’d expect from a boy his age. He is gullible yet bold, brash yet innocent, and brutal but honest. And as someone going through puberty, he also has a keen interest in women. On the bright side, this gives the series a little edge over other shows with typical dense protagonists who seem to never have any interest towards love. On the downside, this makes Denji more susceptible to heartbreak and betrayal. In fact, you’ll later discover that almost every woman he encounters in the series will try to murder him! Even so, Denji remains devoted in wanting to find love.

The Women in Denji’s Life
Does Denji Love Himeno?

Himeno is among the first women to play a part in Denji’s life. The two first met during a job mission to exterminate a devil in Morin Hotel during the Eternity Devil Arc. As an experienced superior, Himeno is portrayed to be mature, calculating, and even daring. During their battle against the Eternity Devil, she motivated Denji by promising she’ll give him a French kiss in exchange for killing the enemy. At the end of the arc, we’ll find out that she kept her promise by kissing Denji while drunk. Still, despite taking away the main lead’s first kiss, Himeno’s role in Denji’s life is limited to being a co-worker than a love interest. They barely had the chance to actually get to know each other and deepen their bond. In the end, their connection was also short-lived as Himeno eventually died in the series.
Does Denji Love Makima?

If there’s a woman in Chainsaw Man who has completely enthralled Denji, that would be Makima. Beautiful, strong, and scheming, Makima is the perfect manipulator that matches Denji’s gullible personality. It was Makima who discovered Denji after he first transformed into Chainsaw Man. During their first encounter, Denji was still caught up in his hybrid form after slaughtering all the puppets of the Zombie Devil. Just as he was about to lose his consciousness, he asked Makima to hold him, which she did. He turned back to his human form after being hugged by Makima. Since then, Denji has always been infatuated with Makima. Even when Makima eventually sheds off her facade and turns out to be the main villain all along, Denji admitted to still liking her.
Does Denji Love Reze?

Reze is perhaps the closest to become Denji’s girlfriend … if she didn’t just turn out to be a spy sent by the enemy. Denji and Reze met at a telephone booth like fated lovers. Reze eventually invited him to a cafe where she happened to be working as a waitress. She was initially portrayed to be kind and innocent and has a crush on Denji. But just as the two got closer, it was revealed that Reze was actually the Bomb Devil sent by the Soviet Union to target Chainsaw Man. At the end of the arc, Reze had a changed of heart and decided to runaway with Denji. Unluckily, just as she was about to meet with him, Makima ambushed her, blocking Reze’s possible new life with Denji.
Does Denji Love Power?

Power is among the top favorite characters in Chainsaw Man. She is just as brash as Denji, just as loud, and just as innocent, making her the almost perfect girl counterpart of the main lead. Despite their chemistry, Denji and Power weren’t in any way in love with each other. They initially started out as enemies but eventually became friends. They then started living and working together, along with Aki. In the end, Power is more like the little sister Denji never had. This was very much established when the two took a bath together and Denji admitted not feeling anything sexual at all.
Who Is Denji in Love With?
So, who is Denji in love with in Chainsaw Man? Although the word “love” is such a strong word, it is pretty clear that the closest answer would be the scheming villain, Makima. Being true to her nature as the Control Devil, Makima was able to make Denji like her, even infatuated with her. She was able to leave a strong impact on Denji so much that he still couldn’t bring himself to unlike her despite killing all the people he cared about.
