Natsuki Subaru, the protagonist of Re: Zero-Starting Life in Another World, certainly deserves love and peace more than anyone. Since being transported into the parallel world of Lugunica, Natsuki Subaru has begun a life utterly different from what he used to have. From fighting for his life to dying so many times, his isekai life is certainly not what you want to wish for yourself. However, he tries to surpass all of them by justifying that love can conquer all.
One of the things that viewers expect in any isekai show is the possible bloom of romance. Many isekai shows feature love between the transported hero and a lovely maiden from the other world. Subaru didn’t know for certain what his goal was as a transported individual. Was he summoned to be a hero or a mere civilian in the parallel world?

But, regardless of this, he chose a path for himself and that is through the adorable half-elf, Emilia. It could have been so easy to guess how the series would end if she was the only woman in his life. However, Subaru has more than one woman in his heart. Hence, Emilia’s fate with him is still uncertain and might change in an instant.

6. Crusch Karsten – The Goddess of War and Dictatorship
Crusch is one of the candidates for the throne who is going against Emilia. Although she doesn’t share the same relationship with Subaru as the half-elf, she is still able to form a bond with him. Crusch perceived Subaru as someone worthless and boastful because of the way he acts. Their relationship clearly started on the wrong foot, and the one to blame was Subaru himself.
During the Royal Selection, Subaru had an outburst in front of everyone because of the mockery that the royals were saying of Emilia. No matter how good his intention was, it wasn’t the perfect behaviour that would help Emilia’s candidacy. This incident painted Subaru badly in the eyes of Crusch. However, when Subaru went with an absolute plan to defeat the White Whale, Crusch’s perception of him changed.
She came to see someone whom she could trust and respect. Crusch even admitted that she might develop feelings for him, but Subaru made it clear that two girls are already in his heart. Although Crusch wasn’t entirely serious, this still gives her an essential part in his life. The platonic relationship they were able to build made it possible for them to never hesitate in relying on each other despite coming from different teams.
5. Ram – The Snarky Twin Sister
Ram is the twin sister of Rem and was once hailed as the prodigy of the Oni Clan. Compared to her twin sister, she is more self-centered, sarcastic, and serious. As the maids of Roswaal’s household, the two sisters had no problem serving Subaru as their guest or teaching him the way as a servant like them. However, Ram didn’t get to build a relationship with Subaru like her twin sister. Nonetheless, she still became someone Subaru greatly treasures.
Despite always teasing and mocking Subaru, Ram treasures Subaru in the same way he cares for her. In season two part two of the series, Ram and Subaru was able to deepen their friendship. Ram’s easily angered and cold personality towards Subaru lightened a bit. As he finds a solution to help the people and Emilia to get out of the Elior Forest, Ram’s respect for him drastically changes for the better.
She may intentionally get Subaru’s name wrong every single time; however, this simply implies the friendship they both share. The two will possibly stay just the way they are because it is not Subaru who was able to capture Ram’s heart, but it was Roswaal.

4. Beatrice – The Powerful Artificial Spirit
Beatrice is one of the first girls that became part of Natsuki Subaru’s life. She is part of Emilia’s camp and is currently living at Roswaal’s mansion. Beatrice, also known as Betty, was not that fond of Subaru in the first place. She is forced to lock herself up in the forbidden library and read a book while she waits for her so-called salvation. The forbidden library is not that easy to find; however, Subaru manages to open the right door every time and let out all of his frustrations and fears to Betty.
Throughout the series, Natsuki Subaru has only gained help from a few people, including Betty. In Roswaal’s mansion, Betty, alongside Rem, are the girls who have lent Subaru a hand during his trying times. Though their relationship didn’t show any sign of progress right away, season three featured more of them.
In order to save Betty from the tragic fate that awaits her in the mansion, Subaru tries his best to convince her to live her life and step out from the forbidden library, which he is able to successfully do. After this event, Betty became Subaru’s contractual spirit and was more open and clingy to the man she used to detest.
3. Satella – The Fearsome Witch of Envy
Satella is the woman responsible for Subaru’s new life. She was the witch who summoned him into the parallel world without even stating why she chose to do that. Therefore, with all the misery and pain that Subaru had to go through, she is basically to be blamed. However, Satella, the Witch of Envy, does not see it this way. Yes, it could be that she is blinded by love. No matter how cruel the Return to Death ability is, one can’t deny the advantages that it brings to its user.
It was revealed in the series that Satella is indeed in love with Subaru and claims to only want the best for him. In episode twelve of season two, Satella showed up and confessed her love for Subaru. She told him that she had only loved him and no one else. Satella tried to comfort him by saying that he must treasure and take care of himself. However, this wasn’t enough for Subaru because of the things he had to endure because of her.
It is believed that the Witch of Envy and Satella are two different personalities. Satella is the one whose heart is kinder and has intimate feelings for Subaru. With only two seasons of Re: Zero, a lot of things were still left unexplained. But this does not disregard the fact that the love Satella harbours for Subaru is genuine.

2. Rem – The Fan-Favorite Heroine
She may not be the main heroine of the series, but Rem gained the support and love of a lot of fans. Rem is polite and kind but is frequently suspicious of Subaru. Before getting close to each other, Rem hated Subaru because of the seating smell of the Witch of Envy in him. It even got to the point that she killed Subaru in one of the timelines that, massively traumatized him. However, their relationship began to change when Subaru convinced her to forget about the past and leave all of her regrets behind.
From then, Rem became more attached to Subaru due to him saving her physically and emotionally. It was not only Subaru who began to grow fondness towards her but also the fans. Rem made it harder for fans to believe that Emilia deserve the selfless Subaru. Instead of Emilia, Rem was the woman who wholeheartedly accepted Subaru and the one who supported him from the beginning. Her love for him was strong enough to give her the courage to confess.
During his miserable breakdown, Rem doesn’t take advantage of Subaru’s suggestion for them to move to the countryside and start a family with nothing but peace. Instead, she expressed that she too wants that future with him, but only if Subaru wishes it with a smile on his face instead of tears. To encourage Subaru more, Rem emotionally told him all the things she loves about him. Rem gave one of the most romantic confessions that instantly divided the support fans have for Emilia and Subaru.
1. Emilia – Subaru’s Greatest Love
Emilia is the leading heroine of the series; hence, it would not be so surprising if she is the one whom Subaru ends up with. Despite not being as understanding as Rem towards Subaru, nothing can beat the love that he has for her. Emilia is one of the first people that Subaru encounters when he arrived in Lugunica. Although their first encounter welcomed viewers with sudden deaths and problems, Subaru developing feelings for Emilia was a breath of fresh air.
Whether Subaru was destined to meet Emilia or not, the path he took was indeed a choice he could easily abandon. However, he was too love-struck by the white-as-snow half-elf that he made it his goal to protect her and help her win the throne. What Subaru doesn’t know is that loving Emilia would change and challenge his life gravely. Loving someone can make you the happiest person alive, but it can also make you bring out the worst version of yourself.
Throughout the series, we have seen how long Subaru’s patience was for the woman and how painful it sometimes painful for him to continue loving her. But these struggles didn’t become the reason for him to back down. Even if Subaru was given the easier path to love through Rem, it was and will always be Emilia who comes first in his life. When the conversation about Rem becoming Subaru’s second wife came up, Subaru told Rem that he would gladly agree to the offer once he gets Emilia’s approval.
