Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is now out on Crunchyroll, so it calls for another article talking about Jujutsu Kaisen! This time, we will answer one of the most commonly asked questions: Why is Sukuna interested in Megumi? Is he interested in Megumi’s abilities?
Sukuna made his interest in Megumi apparent in the anime’s first season. He even seemed impressed by Megumi’s skills, and encourages the latter to not hold back. When he also attacked Mahito, he explicitly stated that he did not care about what happens to others except for Megumi.
With this, we’ll be giving you a guide on Megumi’s abilities so far in the anime. It will give you an idea on why Sukuna is obsessed with Megumi’s potential. No manga spoilers included so rest assured!

Megumi Has Immensely High Cursed Energy
Megumi had shown high levels of cursed energy, and can be seen able to control it. He knew how to maximize his cursed energy in such a way that it would not exhaust him in long battles. He was able to use his technique more in the process, and can hold out against a special grade cursed spirit Hanami for the time being. He did not seem at all too tired after the fight too, a testament to his strong manipulation of his cursed energy.

Ten Shadows Technique
It is with Megumi’s high cursed energy that he is able to use and refine his technique. He came from one of the Big Three families in the jujustu society. These Big Three families have powerful jujutsu techniques and have produced remarkable sorcerers for generations. The Zenin clan is among them – which Megumi is part of. He is related to Maki and Mai.
The Zenin clan specifically have the Ten Shadows Technique, which is an inherited ability. Megumi has this. The Ten Shadows Technique is the summoning of the shikigami or familiars to channel and assist the sorcerer’s power. Shadow manipulation can also be made possible in this technique, which allows Megumi to hide and store his weapons in the shadows.

Megumi has a variety of shikigami with different functions. While they are strong, they are not entirely invulnerable. The power from a deceased shikigami will be inherited by the other shikigami. Shikigamis can also combine with one another to have multiple functions needed by the sorcerer at that time.
Here are Megumi’s shikigami so far in the anime:
1. Divine Dogs
The two dogs were seen in one of the first missions Megumi, Itadori, and Nobara were assigned to. They have a strong sense of smell so they are able to track down cursed spirits. Their claws are also sharp and deadly to opponents. This led to a hilarious scene of Nobara and Itadori petting the white divine dog as they were impressed by its abilities.

Unfortunately, the white divine dog got killed. Its powers were inherited by its black twin, thus becoming stronger. It was able to hold out against Hanami in the next episodes.
2. Nue
This is the winged shikigami that is used for transportation and support. It also has wings that can electrocute opponents. Its wings also has the ability to protect Megumi.

3. Toad
This shikigami has the ability to carry and store Megumi’s allies in its mouth to safety. This was seen when he rescued Nobara in their first mission. It also has a long tongue that can grab anything.

4. The Well’s Unknown Abyss
This shikigami is quite unique because it is the combination of Nue and Toad’s abilities. They are toads who have wings and have tongues for stronger restraint. Take note that this shikigami is separate from Nue and Toad in a sense that if they are killed, the parent shikigami would not be affected. However, they cannot be summoned if the parent shikigami got killed.

5. Great Serpent
This shikagami is meant to trap Megumi’s opponents with its fangs. However, it can only subdue low level curses and still struggles with a special grade like Sukuna. It eventually died, and it is currently unknown which shikigami inherited its power.

6. Max Elephant
It is currently the biggest shikigami Megumi has. Hence, summoning the Max Elephant requires a massive amount of cursed energy. Its weight can be used against opponents, and its trunk can spew a lot of water to catch them off guard.

Domain Expansion: Chimera Shadow Garden
Megumi is the only student so far that can summon his own domain expansion. It is still incomplete, but the fact that he was able to create one while still in training is very impressive. The domain expansions in Jujutsu Kaisen were ever only exhibited by very powerful sorcerers and cursed spirits. Look no further than Gojou’s Limitless and Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine.

Domain expansions are simply an advanced cursed technique only summoned by sorcerers who have long honed their skills. Megumi still has a lot to learn, but summoning his own domain expansion, Chimera Shadow Garden, has proven his power.
Chimera Shadow Garden enables Megumi to produce any shikigami he desires in an instant. Once he refines this technique, he will be unstoppable.
Sukuna Sees His Potential
Notably, Sukuna has never witnessed the Ten Shadows Technique before. He even looked impressed by it, and encourages Megumi to unleash it. Given Megumi’s abilities, it is undeniable that the Ten Shadows Technique is very flexible and expansive. The shikigamis aiding the sorcerer in a variety of tasks and functions is useful in strength. Although they cannot all be summoned at the same time, their abilities combined can withstand strong opponents. Most of all, even if a shikigami dies, another shikigami will inherit its power so it is not a doomed situation.

Take note that this is not all of Megumi’s shigikamis so far. There will still be more in the upcoming seasons. Who knows he is hiding a very powerful shikigami saved for a last resort? Most importantly, Megumi still has not perfected his skills yet.
Sukuna’s interest in Megumi lies in the Ten Shadows Technique, and is possibly thinking how it could benefit him in the future. He probably thought that Megumi can be an invaluable ally. Or it’s possible that he sensed that the Ten Shadows Technique can be a a threat to him. Hence, it can never be far off that Sukuna wants to know more about it to be able to defeat or subdue it.
There are a lot of theories about Sukuna’s interest, because there is still no solid confirmation on the anime. In the meantime, it is quite fun to try to put things together.
