An update? Yes, we know you’ve been waiting a long time, and this is an update, but are you ready for the two sides of the coin?
It’s been a while since the world heard from Yuri on Ice. Studio MAPPA first gained international attention when it published the ice-skating anime. The original anime was a hit from the first episode, and Yuri on Ice came to dominate the business during its duration. In fact, the series is still regarded as one of the best sports anime ever produced, and more Yuri on Ice is on the way. And, sure, now that 2023 has arrived, we have an update on the anime’s debut film.
As is typically the case with Yuri on Ice, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that the IP decided not to update us in 2023 at all. And what about the negative news? Well, the update is the same one the fans been getting for years.

The official Yuri on Ice website was updated with the new year, and fans were given the same spiel they had heard previously. Studio MAPPA says work on Ice Adolescence is progressing behind the scenes, but that’s all they can reveal. Because no formal release date has been set at this time, MAPPA is working on the Yuri on Ice move whenever possible.
Of course, this update has disappointed fans, and it’s hard to blame them. This update originally debuted in 2020 and was distributed at the beginning of 2021 and 2022. Now that the notification has been re-shared, some fans are asking if Yuri on Ice will ever become a movie. But, like Viktor, supporters are praying for a miracle on ice!
The Yuri on Ice series basically set Studio MAPPA’s international stage, and seeing the series being neglected annually is definitely a letdown for many. Everybody misses Yuri and Viktor’s Ice Skating actions and can’t wait to see more, but we’re all going to have to wait a little longer.
