Jujutsu Kaisen is now nearing the end of the Culling Game arc of Gege Akutami’s original manga series, and the cliffhanger from the most recent chapter suggests a possible replacement for the missing Nobara Kugisaki. The main issue with this newest arc is that it began immediately after the events of the Shibuya Incident, which means that many characters are still hanging in the balance. The most notable absence is, of course, Nobara Kugisaki, the third member of the main trio of fighters.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Nobara in action in the series, and the lack of updates has some fans convinced she’s dead. While it has yet to be confirmed, the world of the series appears to be progressing as the final moments of the latest chapter set up a potential replacement for Nobara as Hana Kurusu is now fighting alongside Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro.

It has yet to be confirmed that Nobara was killed by Mahito during the Shibuya Incident as of Chapter 210 of Jujutsu Kaisen. While this is upsetting for fans, it is especially so for Yuji and Megumi. Yuji even addresses this in the chapter, revealing that he is wary of Hana and treats her differently than he would others. When Megumi mentions that he expected Yuji to be more considerate of Hana, Yuji explains that he has been afraid. He’s afraid of her replacing Nobara alongside the two of them.

Megumi dismisses this by calling Yuji stupid for even bringing it up, and Yuji admits he’ll apologize to Hana later. This hint at Nobara’s potential replacement is far from accurate. It works on two levels. The first is that it’s our first mention of Nobara in a long time (planting seeds for her possible return), and the second is that it will further sever Yuji and Hana’s relationship when she and Angel realize they need to kill Yuji to take out Sukuna.
