By Janiene LerioJanuary 4, 2023

One Piece, one of the longest-running anime and manga series of all time, is known to have many revelations up its sleeve. Its author, Eiichiro Oda, has revealed many mysteries regarding the storyline for the past 20+ years, but now every stone is turned.

One major mystery of the series has to do with the infamous devil fruit. The Devil Fruit is famous in the One Piece World because it gives special abilities to its user. The recent chapters of One Piece give us yet another clue as to what this mystery fruit may be.

Over the course of the Shonen series, the Devil Fruits have given innumerable characters, good and bad, astounding skills, and with the long-awaited emergence of Dr. Vegapunk, the mad scientist has been dropping info bombs on Luffy and his crew. Following a discussion of how the Devil Fruits came to be, the big brain has now investigated how the power-granting fruits were able to be copied, as well as some other delicious details about the Grand Line’s main component.

If you have been following One Piece’s most recent chapters, you’d know that the straw hats are now in Egghead Island, the home of the famous scientist, Dr. Vegapunk.

While Vegapunk has been dropping some major bombshells about the Devil Fruit’s origins, explaining that the power-enabling fruits derived their powers and weaknesses from a sea goddess, the scientist also takes the opportunity to explain how the fruit may also be duplicated:

“Only Zoan-type Devil Fruits can be intentionally made. Almost all of those fruits, including the rare ones, can almost certainly be recreated with large sums of money and time, though I haven’t established whether they can awaken.”

If you can recall, Zoan-type devil fruits are those that allow its users to transform into an animal species at will or if the user is already an animal, like Chopper, they transform into humans. Some of the examples of those who have Zoan-type devil fruits are Rob Lucci, Chopper, and Momonosuke (SMILE, replicated).

Vegapunk then continues to explain that even though Paramythia-type Devil Fruits are harder to replicate, it is not impossible.

“However, for Paramythia kinds, I discovered that as long as you had the user’s bloodline elements, you can manufacture and give a particular form of blood that is liquid coursing through their arms to bestow those powers to others.”

The Straw Hats who weren’t fighting Rob Lucci in a life-or-death battle were taken aback by this revelation, realizing that the scientist was capable of creating new blood for subjects while also claiming that the Seraphim represent the “highest echelon of science conceivable” and thus the strongest form of humanity.

This would certainly explain the power of the Seraphim and of Vegapunk’s other creations, and this revelation is key to how the Straw Hats might handle their future foes.
