Waku-Waku! Spy x Family is set to return later this year with a complete second season of anime and a feature film release, and now one of the novels and official fan guidebooks will be released outside of Japan and will be available in the United States very soon!
Tatsuya Endo’s original manga franchise had a fantastic year last year. The manga was already a huge hit in its own right, but now it’s in a whole other league owing to the successful premiere of its anime adaptation. However, this year seems to be even greater for it.
Not only will the anime return later this year, but Viz Media is also assisting in the expansion of Spy x Family with further releases! They’ve announced that the official novel, Spy x Family: Family Portrait, will be released this fall. Around the same time, Viz Media will also issue Spy x Family: The Official Guide-Eyes Only, the fanbook with exclusive additional content for the series.
Spy x Family has some major plans for the coming year. Before the first season of the anime had even finished, it was revealed that it would be renewed for a second season. This next season, set to debut later this year, will tackle one of the manga’s most significant arcs, which fans are eager to see for Yor. But that’s not all; the franchise will also make its debut in Japanese theaters later this year.
While overseas releases for the second season or movie have yet to be finalized, the new feature film will have a wholly unique plot overseen by series creator Tatsuya Endo (who will also be providing the designs for the new characters). Given the popularity of the first season, we may expect the film to make its way to the West, although it won’t arrive until early 2024, depending on when the film is released.
