In a shock surprise, Ritsu was able to achieve 100% in Mob Psycho 100. How was he able to do it?
In the first season of Mob Psycho 100, Ritsu’s feeling of envy towards his older brother, Kageyama Shigeo, was featured. While Ritsu longs for a psychic ability just like his brother, Mob wanted to be just like Ritsu. Someone who didn’t have any powers, but still managed to excel in almost everything.
Ritsu’s jealousy stemmed from feelings of insecurity. It is something that should never be felt towards others, especially your siblings. Having a brother with immense physic abilities, Kageyama Ritsu has tried to bend not only one but maybe a thousand spoons.
Basically, his older brother craved a simpler life without needing psychic powers, and Ritsu always wanted to awaken his. Kageyama Ritsu is one of the main characters in the recently concluded anime Mob Psycho 100. He is the younger brother of the main protagonist, Kageyama Shigeo.
Ritsu attends the same school as his older brother, Salt Middle School. However, their academic and social life differs a lot. Unlike his shy-type older brother, Ritsu is the outgoing one who is popular in school and someone who serves the student council.
He excelled a lot in his academic and social life, even without trying. However, these things weren’t what he wanted. He wanted to be an esper himself. He wanted what his brother had more than anything else, a psychic ability.

How Did Ritsu Unlock His Powers?
As mentioned, Kageyama Ritsu might have held thousands of spoons throughout his life trying to unlock his powers. Season 1 is primarily focused on the relationship between Ritsu and Shigeo.

Although both brothers care for and love each other, misunderstandings between siblings are always present. Ritsu’s inferiority complex towards his powerful psychic older brother caused him to stray on the wrong path.
With Dimple‘s effective convincing skills, Ritsu agreed for Dimple to control his body to manifest his psychic abilities more. But, the young Kageyema’s psychic abilities were too powerful for the evil spirit. Eventually, Ritsu no longer needed Dimple and gained the ability to control his power.

Ritsu witnessing Shigeo’s psychic powers due to an accident when they were young, developed his fear and inferior feelings towards his brother. Hence, Ritsu tried his best to awaken his latent abilities. His desperation led him to the Awakening Lab by Kenji, where he met other young espers, whom he eventually became friends with.
However, Ritsu let his powers get the worst of him. Instead of using his newly unlocked abilities in helping others, just like his older brother, Ritsu did awful deeds when he finally became an esper.
Together with the president of the student council, Shinji Kamuro, they carried out the Big Cleanup Plan. The said plan was meant to remove all the delinquents in the school. One of the main victims was Tenga Onigawara, who Ritsu and Shinji framed and shamed in the school.

The younger Kageyama used his powers by causing harm to others. He pretended to be his brother Mob a.k.a White T-Poison and beat up gangsters from different schools. Without his knowing, a member of the 7th Division of Claw was observing him and kidnapped him just after fighting his older brother who tried to save him.
In the final episodes of season 1, he then fought the other members of the 7th Division together with Shigeo, Teruki Hanazawa, Dimple, the young espers from the Awakening Club, and Master Reigen. Hence, the Kageyama siblings were able to form a better bond towards the end of the first season.
Did Ritsu Also Achieve 100%?
The younger brother of the hailed strongest esper in Mob Psycho 100 also developed his psychic abilities. Although not as strong as Mob, Kageyama Ritsu, still became a powerful esper. Ritsu vowed to live his life as an esper just like his brother and to never abuse his powers again.
Kageyama Ritsu did not have much role in Season 2, unlike in the first season. However, he was still shown showing support for his brother, and still thriving both in academic and social contexts, and eventually fought alongside his newfound friend, Sho, and his brother in defeating the evil organization, Claw. He was a good younger brother, at the same time, a good esper.
In the final arc of season 3, when his brother decided that he will finally confess to his childhood crush, Tsubomi Takane. Ritsu got nervous that his brother might go berserk after his rejection.
Ritsu had premonitions that the happenings in the city at that time involved his brother. True enough, his brother has gone berserk causing major destruction in their city. So, he rushed to find his brother, with the hopes of stopping him.
Ritsu found his brother who was hurting the Body Improvement Club, and decided to fight him. At first, he thought that he couldn’t stand a chance against Mob.
However, with his love for his older brother and determination to end his suffering, Ritsu was able to reach 100%. Reaching a hundred percent psychic ability enabled him to rival his brother’s power.

With a smile and tears of happiness, Ritsu realized the true purpose of his psychic abilities, and that is to help his untamed brother when the time comes. In conclusion, Kageyama Ritsu finally reached 100% of his full potential as an esper when his brother needed him most.
