Yoshinobu Akita’s Sorcerous Stabber Orphen will be receiving a third anime season titled Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Urban Rama-hen following the arc from the light novel, as revealed on the official anime website. The season is set to premiere in January 2023.
Joining the cast for season 3 is Daisuke Ono who will be voicing Ed. Ono’s notable works include Sebastian Michaelis of Black Butler, Erwin Smith of Attack on Titan, and Sinbad of Magi: Adventure of Sinbad. Along with Shiki Aoki who will be voicing Lottecia. Aoki’s notable works include Mayuko Nise of High-Rise Invasion and Homura Kogetsu of Edens Zero.

Returning staff from the previous seasons is the director Takayuki Hamana (Idaten Jump, Arte, Appleseed XIII) who also directed the last two seasons along with Yoko Kikuchi and Rio who are coming back from season 2 as character designers.
The new CG director is Shinsuke Oshima who is also composing the music for this season as well. However, Kenji Konuta is replacing Reiko Yoshida for the series composition. The series will be produced by Studio DEEN.
The series began with Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: The Wayward Journey as a light novel series written by Yoshinobu Akita and illustrated by Yuuya Kusaka. It was first published by Fujimi Shobo under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko label in the Monthly Dragon Magazine between 1994 and 2003. It consists of 20 volumes which later on became the basis for the first anime and manga series.

A light novel under the title Sorcerous Stabber Orphen Anthology was released in 2019 featuring a collection of original stories written by the author Akita as well as guest writers Hajime Kanzaka, Yutaka Kono, Koushi Tachibana, Miya Kazuki, and Yomi Hirasaka. The cover and illustration were drawn by Yuuya Kusaka.
Akita created a second series two years after the beginning of the main novel series called Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: The Reckless Journey. The series centers around Orphen’s journey depicted with a more light-hearted and comedic tone chronological set before the main series. The novel series encompassed 13 volumes between 1996 and 2003, similarly published as the first series.

Akita released a short light novel spanning two volumes with the title Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Detour in 1997. It contained side stories that occurred during the first half of Orphen’s journey with Claiomh and Majic.
T.O. Entertainment released a brand new series of the Orphen novels entitled Sorcerer Stabber Orphen: New Wayward Journey in September 2011.
A manga adaptation was created by Akita and artist Hajime Sawada that was split into two separate series: Sorcerous Stabber Orphen, which consists of 6 volumes, and Sorcerous Stabber Orphen MAX, which was a two-volume side story. ADV Manga released the manga series in English in March 2005.

The original Sorcerous Stabber Orphen anime was produced by Kadokawa Shoten and animated by J.C. Staff. The 24-episode aired simultaneously on TBS and HBC from October 3, 1998, to March 27, 1999. It was later released by ADC Films in North America on DVD and VHS in 2001.
A second series spanning 23 episodes, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen 2: Revenge or Orphen Revenge was broadcasted later in 1999. It was released on DVD by ADV Films in North America in December 2003.
A new TV anime adaptation that was initially set to premiere in 2019 was announced to commemorate the series’ 25th anniversary. It was rescheduled to premiere from January to March 2020.

A second season of the 2020 remake with the title Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Battle of Kimluck aired from January 20 to March 31, 2021. It was licensed by Funimation and streamed on its website in North America, the British Isles, Europe through Wakanime, and Australia and New Zealand through AnimeLab.

What Is Sorcerous Stabber Orphen About?
The plot of Sorcerous Stabber Orphen revolves around an orphaned boy named Kyrlancelo Firandi, a talented black sorcerer who later changes his name to Orphen. He was originally a member of the Tower of Fangs, studying sorcery under Childman. In an experiment that had gone awry, performed by Childmnand and his classmate Azalie (who considers his sister), Azalie was transformed into a monster and later escapes the tower. As a result, Orphen leaves the Tower of Fangs and journeys to find ways to return Amelia back to her true form.
