The Ancient Magus’ Bride is getting a Season 2 with a release date of April 2023!
Twin Engine released the promotional video for the upcoming Season 2 of Kore Yamazaki’s (Futari no Renai Shoka, Frau Faust) The Ancient Magus Bride (Mahou Tsukai no Yome) on their official Youtube channel.
Tokyo MX and BS11 will air the TV series and it will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and Hikari TV in Japan.
Fans of the series will be happy to know that the 2nd season will be about Chise’s “Gakuin” (Univesity) arc of the manga which was launched in May 2018.
The Season 1 cast of the series will be reprising their roles for the 2nd season along with an additional cast from the OAD project of the series.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride is written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki and was first serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade from November 30, 2013, to September 1, 2014. The series was moved to the new Monthly Comic Garden Magazine where it is still ongoing and it currently has more than 10 million copies in circulation.
The North American license was acquired by Seven Seas Entertainment in October 2014.
Wit Studio produced the three-part prequel OVA The Ancient Magus Bride: Those Awaiting a Star and the TV adaptation that was aired from October 2017 to March 2018. The prequel was written by Kore Yamazaki with Aya Takaha as script writer and Norihiro Naganuma as director.
The latest addition to the franchise is a three-part OVA from Studio Kafka entitled The Ancient Magus’ Bride: The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze was announced in March 2021 with the episodes bundled with the 16th to 17th volume of the manga. It was released on September 10, 2021, March 20, 2022, and September 10, 2022. Directed by Kauzaki Terasawa and scripts by Aya Takaha and Yoko Yonaiyama.

Crunchyroll is currently streaming the original animation DVD project worldwide. Season 1 will also have a re-airing program in Tokyo MX from Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 22:00 JST and BS11 from Friday, October 7, 2022, at 23:00 JST.
Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing the manga in English along with several spinoff manga and supplement books in the series.
The series plot is as follows:
Hatori Chise has lived a life full of neglect and abuse, devoid of anything resembling love. Far from the warmth of family, she has had her share of troubles and pitfalls. Just when all hope seems lost, a fateful encounter awaits her. When a man with the head of a beast, wielding strange powers, obtains her through a slave auction, Chise’s life will never be the same again.
The man is a “magus,” a sorcerer of great power, who decides to free Chise from the bonds of captivity. The magus then makes a bold statement: Chise will become his apprentice–and his bride!
