Yes, Rudeus will reunite with Sylphiette and happily marry her. Slyphitte was the first heroine introduced in the series whom people already suspected as one of Rudeus Greyrat’s love interests. The love story of Rudeus and Sylphiette halted for a few years because of the mana calamity that separated them much longer. However, if it’s meant, it will truly be.
No doubt that there is a happy ending for them, but they will have to go through a lot first, especially since Sylphiette is no longer the girl he once knew.
The continuation of Sylphiette and Rudeus’ love story is one of the series’ most interesting storylines. In fact, season 2 will focus on the long-awaited reunion of these childhood best friends. Season 1 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation ended in December 2021, meaning fans have been waiting for season 2 for almost two years. Good thing that the waiting game is finally over with season two’s debut on July 12.
Along with the announcement date of season 2 at the end of 2022, Mushoku Tensei‘s official Twitter also revealed a new key visual featuring an older version of Rudeus and Slyphiette. Therefore, fans are expecting that the upcoming season will have more Sylphiette and Rudeus moments. This will definitely happen, and their story will evolve from strangers to friends to lovers. But before that, let’s help you reminisce about the beginning of their relationship to be able to catch up easily with the happenings in season 2.
How Did Rudeus and Sylphiette Meet?
Rudeus met Sylphiette when he needed a friend most. Rudeus Greyrat is the main character of Mushoku Tensei. He got reincarnated into a magical world after being killed by a speeding truck in modern-day Japan. However, even after being the isekai hero, Rudeus carried with him the traumas that scarred him in his previous life. Thankfully, Sylphiette came into his life and distracted him from all the pain he was keeping inside.
With the help of Roxy, Rudeus was able to face his fear of going outside, brought on by the vicious bullying he went through in his previous life. Therefore, when Roxy left the Buena Village, Rudeus already had the confidence to explore the village and practice magic by himself. His encounters outside the village led him to meet one of his future wives, Sylphiette.
In episode three of season one, Rudeus saw a bunch of kids from their village who was bullying Sylphiette. This incident reminded him of the same thing that he went through under his cruel classmates; hence, he saved her from the kids using magic. Due to Sylphiette’s resemblance with the Superd warriors, kids threw rocks at her. Regardless of this, Rudeus wanted to be friends with her even if it meant that the other kids won’t. However, before and after being friends never gave it a thought that Sylphiette can actually be a ‘her’ and not a ‘him.’

The two continued being friends with each other without Rudeus finding out her true gender. For six months, the two spent most of their together. Rudeus taught Sylphiette some magic he knew, which she easily caught up with. Under Rudeus’ lessons, Sylphiette was capable of expanding her mana more, achieving voiceless incantations like Rudeus. On one rainy day, the two were soaking wet and had to change. Rudeus invited her to bathe with him with the thought that his playmate was a boy like him.
Young Rudeus was completely naked in front of the innocent Sylphiette, whose face was as red as a tomato. Still clueless, he helps her undress, which later turns into a huge problem, for he finds out after seeing it that his playmate for many months now is definitely a girl. Rudeus apologized to her, but things were still awkward for quite a while. After some time, Sylphiette revisited him and told him to act like usual, while Rudeus then complimented her by telling her how cute she really was.
Finding out that Sylphiette is a girl drastically changes his perspective toward her. Rudeus slowly began to see her as more than a friend. Paul Greyrat, his father, even caught him mumbling her name in his bed. While their love story could have been another adorable storyline to follow, things began to become more serious for Rudeus, preventing their cute little love story to start early.
When Did Rudeus and Sylphiette Part Ways?
The whole idea of attending school was always not a good topic for Rudeus Greyrat. This is because his experience in school and with his classmates wasn’t that ideal or humane. Hence, when his father, Paul, brought it up, Rudeus had to give it a lot of thought.
During his usual playtime with Sylphiette, Rudeus mentioned that he had been stuck lately. Be it in magic or swordsmanship, Rudeus knew that he wasn’t making any huge development. Regardless if he is an isekai hero or the main character, he knows that he is only skilled because he is still a young boy.
Rudeus wanted to mold his skills and abilities further as he grew older, and he expressed to Sylphiette that he cannot do much in their village. This statement of Rudy made Sylphiette cry as she didn’t want Rudeus to leave the village… to leave her. Thus, he mustered up his courage and tried to negotiate with his father.
After receiving a letter from his former tutor, Roxy, Rudeus realized that it was time for him to focus on honing his skills in order to not disappoint her master/tutor. Hence, during their family dinner, Rudeus brought up the topic of his family sponsoring Sylphiette’s education.
The family of Sylphiette wasn’t as well off as Rudeus’ family. More so, he also highlighted that he hasn’t been developing lately. Therefore, he told his father his desire to enroll at Ranoa Magic Academy along with Sylphiette. Unfortunately, his father reasonably disapproved of this request of Rudeus.

No matter how talented and gifted Rudeus is and whether he may have maintained his 34 years old man mindset when he got reincarnated, he is still a child in his parent’s eyes. Paul highlighted that Rudeus is still too young to be separated from them, he hasn’t finished his swordsmanship training, and their money doesn’t grow on trees, making it impossible to sponsor Sylphiette’s education.
Determined to someday enroll with Sylphiette when his father is ready for him to leave home, Rudeus proposes to his father to find him a job where he’ll get paid. Though he didn’t inform Sylphiette about his plans, Rudeus wanted to work and save up for her to be able to attend the academy.
Paul immediately adhered to his son’s request; however, for Rudeus, it was too soon. Aside from Rudeus wanting to find a job to save money, Paul agreed with the thought of his son gaining independence from Sylphiette. For Paul, Rudeus became too attached and dependent on Sylphiette’s feelings. With Rudeus resisting being separated from his childhood friend and crush, Paul had no choice but to use brute force.
Sylphiette was allegedly saddened by Rudeus being away but continued her relationship with the Greyrat family. They only had to be separated for five years until he turned 12, but their reunion got delayed because of the mana calamity. During the said event, Sylphiette was visiting Greyrat household. Hence, with no one holding her at that time, she was teleported alone to who knows where.
How Will Rudeus and Sylphiette Reunite?
They will reunite where they were supposed to go in the first place… the Ranoa Magic Academy. After traveling from the Demon Continent for three years with Eris and Ruijerd, Rudeus will enrolls himself at Ranoa Magic Academy. The love story of Sylphiette and Rudeus could have been another school love romance if things had turned out well when they were young. Sadly, even when enrolled at the same school, Rudeus will not recognize Sylphiette.
Eris broke Rudeus’ heart to the core, barely making it, if not for her mother’s sake. Rudeus was determined to continue his journey alone and find her mother. Using the name Quagmire, Rudeus hopped from one party to another until his name became popular in the Central Continent. This led him to meet Elinalise Dragonroad, a friend of Roxy and one of the previous members of his father’s party.
His popularity as Quagmire also reached Ranoa Magic Academy, and they offered Rudeus a scholarship. He was scouted because he was known to be a great adventurer, someone who can do voiceless incantation, and a previous student of the famous Roxy. Moreover, Hitogami also somehow foreshadowed to Rudeus that his understanding of the mana calamity or teleportation incident would deepen if he enrolled. As well as his erectile dysfunction would be cured.
The academy will be the way for Sylphiette and Rudeus to meet again. But, he will not be able to recognize her as she was disgusting herself as a man. It turns out that the teleportation incident led Sylphiette to the Asura Kingdom. There she saved the kingdom’s princess, Ariel Anemoi Asura, from a group of assassins that led her to become one of the princess’s bodyguards.
Disguised as the cold, silent, and intimidating knight, Fitts, Sylphiette was popular among the girls. This made it difficult for Rudeus to realize who she really was, not to mention that her then-green hair turned white due to the man’s exhaustion. Regardless, Sylphiette continues to help Rudeus, even with him being clueless about her real identity.

Sylphiette serves the princess along with Luke Notos Greyrat, and only they know who she really is. Rudeus and Sylphiette have many encounters, making him rethink his feelings as he is starting to get mesmerized by Fitts-san’s smile. He also starts to be bothered when Sylphiette tries to turn her away from him.
On one hand, Sylphiette constantly expressed his love for him through her friends and in silence. He wants Rudeus more than anyone else and doesn’t want any girls to have his attention. Yes, Sylphy is the jealous type kind-of girl, but not in a toxic way. She believes that it is her disguised as Fitts, whom he is smiling at, and not her true self, Sylphiette.
In chapter 71 of the original manga, Rudeus confronted Fitts (Sylphiette) about why she was avoiding him. Sylphy answered that he didn’t and followed it up by saying that he would never hate him. During their conversation, they accidentally lose balance. This made Sylphy land on top of him, making it possible for Rudeus to find out that Fitts is actually a girl.
The moment Sylphy or Fitts landed on top of him, Rudeus’ erectile dysfunction was cured. Therefore, he acknowledges his feelings for her and respects Fitts intention to keep pretending as a man. He was willing to hold back just for her. While it is awkward for them both, Princess Ariel, Sylphy’s friend, advises her to follow her will and confess to Rudeus.
Rudeus and Sylphiette Reminices the Past
In chapter 73, with Ariel’s suggestion, Slyphy planned to reveal who she really is by doing stuff from they were young. Instead of directly telling him, they wanted to trigger his memories and make him remember her. Through Sylphy’s Make-Rudeus-Remember plan, she made up a story and asked for his assistance to get a rare flower in the dangerous Rain Forest.
This adventure of them to the forest became their most touching reunion. Because of an unforeseen rain, they had to take shelter in a cave. Rudeus again helps Sylphy undress, which triggers memories from when they were young, particularly when he again undresses her when he thinks she is a guy. The highly anticipated realization from Rudeus finally happened, and they confessed their true feelings for each other by saying, ‘I love you.’
After sharing feelings and bodies, Rudeus and Syphy ended up getting married. They both promised each other to spend their lives together forever, and Sylphiette carried Rudeus’ first child. Sylphiette was no doubt his first love. She became Rudeus’ companion in life. They built their own family, and she helped him take care of his two sisters, Aisha and Norn.
Even disguised as a man, Sylphiette was still able to charm Rudeus because the feelings they harbor for each other are always there, no matter how they try to hide them.
