But the relationship between Eris and Rudeus didn’t start with the typical beginning of a common love story because of her temper.

When Did Eris and Rudeus Meet?
Rudeus Greyrat has always been eager to join the Ranoa Magic Academy. In order to continue molding his skills in magic like Roxy, Rudeus Greyrat wanted to enroll himself in the academy together with Slyphiette. However, the teleportation incident changed the course of all of his plans, and he somehow ended up traveling with a beautiful short, tempted red-haired girl.
The two weren’t fond of each other at first, particularly Eris. Rudeus wanting to earn some money for Slyphiette’s tuition and him becoming too dependent on Sylphiette forced his father to send him to work for his cousin in the Asura Kingdom. Well, since their love story started when they were still kids, it is safe to assume that it started adorably. But sadly, it didn’t.
Rudeus has to tutor the daughter of his father’s cousin, Philip Boreas Greyrat, for five years in exchange for his full tuition at the Ranoa Magic Academy. Rudeus is indeed capable of teaching some young girl magics, but he didn’t anticipate how hard-headed this Eris Boreas Greyrat would be.
Intimidating and violent were the words that came first to Rudeus when she finally saw. With her red hair and strong personality, it was probably normal for Rudeus to feel this, especially since Eris is older and taller. Regardless of his fear of approaching him, he still did so, and Rudeus was welcomed by an arrogant shouting and a slap from Eris. In return, Rudeus slapped her, which angered Eris even more. For Rudeus, Eris was the perfect main character of a delinquent manga.

The arrogance of Eris made it difficult for Rudeus to get into his job right away because the most important thing to gain her trust was hard. Philip, Eris’ father, also told Rudeus that every potential tutor of hers has backed out right after getting to know her. However, this was Rudeus Greyrat we’re talking about. He made a plan that would make her trust him. In episode five of season one, Rudeus orchestrated a fake kidnap plan with Philip’s approval.
The plan was supposed to show her his capability and make her trust him. However, it turned out that one of the servants of the Greyrat’s turned this plan into something real. After discovering that it is no longer fake, Rudeus forces Eris to cooperate with him and protect her in any way he can. However, even with his strength, he was still a kid and almost got killed by the bandits if Ghislaine didn’t show up.
In the end, Rudeus’ plan is unsuccessful, but he can still earn Eris’ slight affection and trust. Even with what happened, she still allowed Rudeus to continue working for them by being her tutor. The incident has put their lives at stake. At the same time, it also became a way for her to be comfortable with Rudeus easily.
Rudeus taught Eris science, language, mathematics, and magic, along with Ghislaine. They also spent their time together training their swordsmanship skills under the supervision of the Sword King, Ghislaine. The two bonded in a lot of things. She may still act arrogant sometimes, but Rudeus slowly understands that she is just one of those who has a hard time expressing their real feelings.

When Did Eris Fall In Love With Rudeus?
It remains uncertain when Eris started to develop feelings for Rudeus, especially since she never confessed her feelings to him. As mentioned, she finds it hard to say the right words or even the courage to say such cheesy things.
However, the two have spent most of their time together since their first meeting, and many significant events have shown that both Eris and Rudeus have slowly begun to develop feelings for each other. Here are some of the most notable Eris and Rudeus moments in the series:
The Firework Incident
This happened during the kidnapping incident in episode five of season one that endangered their lives. Due to Rudeus carrying all of his experiences and knowledge from his past life, he can experiment with his magical abilities based on what he already knows, including casting a spell that produces fireworks. The bandits were trying to negotiate with Rudeus to join their team. They were keeping Eris as their hostage.
Hence, it was hard for Rudeus to find the perfect spot or time to attack them without hurting Eris. Using his tremendous magical ability, he cast an explosion spell which turned out to be a beautiful firework. The fireworks diverted the attention of the bandits, allowing Rudeus to get Eris from them. The firework spell of Rudeus mesmerized her, making her more interested in learning magic from Rudeus.
Rudeus Become Eris’ Dance Partner
Surely, with all the things that have happened, Rudeus and Eris have begun to develop from strangers to friends. As a noblewoman, she must learn how to dance for her 10th birthday to maintain her family’s reputation. However, the pressure was too much for her. Fortunately, Rudeus is willing to be his practice dance partner. She was able to keep up with Rudeus but found it hard to focus when his partner was different.
During the celebration, noblemen her age also wanted to dance with her, which she gladly accepted. Regardless of how tough she may seem, having all the guests’ eyes on her led her to fall to the ground. Thus, people started to talk and belittle the poor noble. Thankfully, Rudeus saves the day by asking her to dance with him to save her from embarrassment. With Rudeus, they were able to dance smoothly, which gained the applause of all the visitors.
Eris Greyrat’s Precious Birthday Gifts for Rudes
Two years after Eris turned ten years old, it was Rudeus’ turn. Rudeus’ likable character and amazing skills resulted in the whole Boreas-Greyrat family liking him. Therefore, granting him a big celebration from the family. Everyone inside the household worked together to give him the best birthday surprise, which they successfully did (although Rudeus was slightly aware of it.) Eris gave Rudeus a bouquet of flowers.
In addition, she and her family gifted him a well-crafted staff, Aqua Heartia, which he uses today. The celebration and gift-giving didn’t end after the party, though. Right when everybody was about to sleep, Eris visited Rudeus in his room. Eris allowed Rudeus to touch a bit of her but was instantly stopped when she got uncomfortable. Although it was delayed, Eris returned and promised Rudeus that she would give herself to him after five years.
Rudeus Almost Destroyed a City for the His Stubborn Red-Haired Girl
Rudeus, Ruijerd, and Eris started their journey as an adventurer in a city on the Demon Continent to earn more money for them to get by while they travel from one city to another. Everything was supposed to be easy with the combined strength of the three; however, they came across a greedy horse-headed who found out how they were making money and threatened them. As someone who had experienced ruthless bullying in his past life, Rudeus had enough.
Nokapara, the horse-headed adventurer, blackmailed them and wanted half of their monthly earnings. Rudy didn’t want to repeat the same mistakes, especially now that he had Eris, whom he had to protect. Thus, when Eris calls out his name, he reassures her everything will be alright. Rudeus started to cast a powerful magic spell that formed a cyclone. He was ready to wipe off the whole city, which would betray Ruijerd just to protect Eris.

Rudeus Is Comforted by a Warm Hug
After their long travels in the Demon Continent, the Dead End trio made it to Millishion. Unexpectedly, Rudeus encountered his father, who had completely changed since they last met. Rudeus didn’t know that her entire family also got affected by the teleportation incident and got separated, leading to his father’s downfall. With guilt and pain, Rudeus once again falls into depression.
Eris got angry for witnessing Rudeus in such a state. Though she was ready to fight Paul, Ruijerd advised her to comfort him. Eris is never the best at expressing herself, but hugging Rudeus makes him feel at least a bit better. Rudeus sigh in relief and thanked Eris. This scene shows Eris’ true feelings for Rudues. Despite shouting at him and being mean, Eris never wants to see him sad, and she cannot help but blush in intimate moments like this one.
Eris Protected Rudeus With Her Life
This particular scene was the event that made Eris and Rudeus’ destinies drift apart. After reuniting with his father and saving Lilia and Aisha from Pax Shirone, Rudeus takes off to finally bring Eris home. However, while they climbed the snowy mountains and talked about the Dragon God and Demon God, they coincidentally met the Dragon God, Orsted. Because of Rudeus’ connection with Man-God, Orsted’s anger towards God was triggered, and he was hesitant to kill Rudeus.
Ruijerd defended Rudeus from receiving an attack from Rudeus. However, he was too much even for a legendary Superd warrior like Ruijerd. In addition, young Eris also fought with all her might for Rudeus, but like Ruijerd, she could not protect him. Eris did everything she could to protect Rudeus. She watched him get attacked by Orsted, and he almost died in front of her if not for Nananoshi. Right after waking up from being unconscious, Rudeus immediately hugs Eris making her tears of relief keep falling.
Eris and Rudes Finally Made Love
Eris and Rudeus have parted ways with Ruijerd, and he finally takes Eris back home. Sadly, like Rudeus’ home, the Asura Kingdom also lost many of its people from the incident, including Eris’ family. As she listened to the news of her family’s death, Eris held Rudeus’ hand tightly. Eris expected everything that she could possibly welcome; they may be good or bad. The devastating news of his family’s death made her think deeply about her future.
After some rethought, Eris’ decision led her to visit Rudeus’ room with the thought of finally fulfilling her promise to him. She expressed wanting a family more than anything and that they should sleep together. Although he initially hesitated because he didn’t want to take advantage of her, Eris seduced him enough that it made Rudeus succumb to his own feelings. While reminiscing everything they’ve been through, Rudeus and Eris shared their bodies and feelings.

Will Eris Marry Rudues?
Yes, she will still be Rudeus Greyrat’s wife, even though they got separated for a long time. The morning after sharing a night together, Rudeus found no sign of Eris’ presence besides the letter she left. Their story resembles Taylor Swift’s popular song lyric in Midnight Rain, “he wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain.” This is because in their story, Rudeus was the sunshine, and Eris was indeed the midnight rain.
Eris and Ghislaine left Rudeus and the kingdom of Asura to train more. Did he really love Rudeus? Yes, she did with everything she had. She admitted to Ghislaine that since they were young, she had loved Rudeus, and the teleportation incident strengthened her feelings for him. However, the night they shared, no matter how beautiful and passionate it was, slapped Eris in reality. For her, Rudeus’ hands were still smaller than hers.
Eris didn’t want to witness what happened to Rudeus when they encountered and fought Orsted. Thus, she was determined to train harder in the Holy Land of Swords to someday catch up with Rudeus, fight side by side with him, and protect him.
According to Mushoku Tensei‘s light novel, Eris will reunite with Rudeus after years of being away from each other. They will confess what they truly feel despite the distance that has separated them. Their feelings of love and longing will be sealed through marriage, and she will become Rudeus’ third wife. Eris will also be appointed as the Goddes of War of Rudeus’ own religion.
Rudeus and Eris were always meant for each other. It was the typical hate-to-love relationship but in a more exciting way. All the sacrifices they made for each other throughout their journey together and apart indeed show that their feelings remained, and no one can ever change that, even Rudeus’ first two wives!
